shutterstock_101555422Second Language Acquisition: New Flavours is a series of five talks spread over the academic year 2016-2017. It is organized by the research groups LANG+ (http://www.langplus.ugent.be/) and GoLLD (http://www.golld.ugent.be/) and sponsored by Internationalisation@Home, an initiative of Ghent University, which aims to provide an international educational experience at UGent.

Each of the five presentations tackles a new topic in Second Language Acquisition (SLA) in an accessible way. With this initiative, we want to familiarize students, researchers, and practitioners with some new flavours in the field of SLA. Topics that will be dealt with include the role of social media in SLA, the impact of emotions on learning a foreign language, online intercultural exchanges in foreign language learning, the use of chat communication in writing instruction and the issue of how to test foreign language proficiency.

The series is open to all who are interested. Talks will be either in Dutch or in English (i.e. in the language of the title of the talk) and will be held in two locations, the Blandijnberg (Linguistics Department) or the Abdisstraat (Department of Translation, Interpreting and Communication). The location of each talk is indicated. Talks will start at 19.15 and last about 45 minutes. There will be time for questions after each talk.
